Today's tour explores the funeral vault of Chinas first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. Built beginning in 211 B.C., but only unearthed by peasants in 1974, the tomb contains over 6,000 life-size terra-cotta warriors. Each warrior is unique, leading experts to believe each was molded after individual members of the emperors personal army.
Well also explore more of Xians buried past at the Shaanix Province Historical Museum and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda.
The evening is open to try another local restaurant; the hotels restaurants are also quite good. Dumplings are a specialty of this region. |

Our morning tour begins at Tiananmen Square, the largest urban gathering place on earth and symbol of the political center of China. After viewing Mao's Tomb (if open), we walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace into the Forbidden City. Also called the Imperial Palace, this 9,000 room "city within-a-city" was home to 24 emperors.
After lunch, we tour the Houhai District by rickshaw. This area of courtyard homes and hutongs borders the tree-lined lakes north of the Forbidden City. The tour will include visiting a local market and visit with a local family. |

Today we climb the Great Wall at the Mutianya section. Stretching for 4,000 miles, the Wall is Chinas greatest structure and most enduring symbol.
Upon returning to Beijing the afternoon is open.

Tour Notes:
1) Airfare within China is included in the tour cost. For the international airfare, the best alternative is to book a through fare from your home city to Shanghai, and returning directly home from Beijing.
2) The flight times within China are subject to change once the fall schedules are published. Once the fall flight schedules are set, ATA will see about availability of business and first class supplemental costs. As a whole, the planes being used within China are newer Boeing planes, quite safe and comfortable.
3) The hotels are considered deluxe and are among the best in each city.
CONDITIONS
Reservations and Payment: Reservations are confirmed by American Travel Association (ATA), upon receipt of the Reservation Form and deposit. Reservations require a USD300 (or the equivalent in foreign currency) per person deposit to accompany the Coupon and are due by May 1, 2008. Receipt of final payment is due in the office of ATA no later than August 28, 2008. For reservations received after August 28, full payment is due with the sending of the Reservation Form.
Cancellation:
Land Package: A $200 per person fee will be charged for cancellations regardless of the reason. A $500 per person cancellation fee will be charged on cancellations received between August 29 and September 12. Cancellation fee between September 13 and departure will be a maximum of 100% of the land cost per person, depending upon the amount recoverable from the suppliers to whom payment had been sent. There will be no refunds once the tour has begun. Cancellations must be made in writing to ATA. To avoid discrepancies, ATA will not act on information given over the phone until written notice has been received.
Health: The Participants represents that neither he nor she nor anyone traveling with him or her has any physical or other condition or disability that could create a hazard to himself or herself or other members of the tour. This program involves walking over uneven surfaces and climbing stairs at locations that are not handicap accessible. A letter of explanation of any physical or mental condition which may require medical attention or special equipment (wheelchair, for example) must be enclosed with the Reservation Form.
Airline Contract: The usual passage contract when the ticket is issued shall constitute the sole contract between the airline and the tour participant. ATA and CSAA shall not be liable for airline cancellation penalties incurred by purchasing non-refundable tickets.

Insurance: Trip cancellation, baggage and medical insurance coverage are available for purchase through a form sent to you by ATA or your local insurance representative. We encourage everyone to consider some form of insurance. Last minute emergencies and illnesses do occur, and the insurance helps offset non-refundable air, hotel, and transportation charges. You should also check with your local insurance agent to see what is covered under your homeowners policy.
Responsibility: American Travel Association (ATA), the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW), the World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO) and/or their agents, act only as agent for the participant and their travel companions (hereinafter called Participants) with respect to the owners and contractors providing means of transportation or other services to purchasers of this tour, subject to any and all items and conditions under which any transportation or any other services whatsoever are provided by such owners and contractors. ATA, IARW and WFLO shall not be liable or responsible to Participants for the acts or omissions of the aforesaid owners and contractors supplying transportation or other services hereunder, including but not limited to breach of contract, intentional or negligent delay or bodily or property loss, injury or damages. ATA, IARW and WFLO shall not be liable or responsible to Participants for loss, injury or damages caused by or resulting from acts of God, fire, breakdown of machinery or equipment, acts of governments and other authorities, wars, strikes, riots, thefts, epidemics or quarantines, monetary crisis, diseases, terrorism or novel conditions. Participants shall have the responsibility to be aware of and determine the validity of any travel advisories, which may exist. Unless the term "guaranteed" is specifically stated in writing on any invoice or reservation itinerary, ATA, IARW, and WFLO do not guarantee any of such suppliers' rates, bookings or reservations. The Participants' retention of tickets, reservations or bookings after issuance shall constitute consent to the above terms and conditions. In addition, Participants shall be responsible for conveying the terms and conditions hereunder to travel companions. In the event it becomes necessary or advisable for the comfort or well-being of the Participants, or any reason whatsoever, to alter the itinerary at any time without notice to the Participants, such alterations will be made without penalty to ATA, IARW and WFLO. If, due to weather, flight schedules or other uncontrollable factors, you are required to spend additional nights before or after the tour, participants will be responsible for your own hotel, transfers, meals and related costs.
Travel Advisories/Warnings: It is the responsibility of the Participant to become informed about the most current travel advisories and warnings by referring to the U. S. State Departments travel website at www.travel.state.gov/ or by phone at 1-888-407- 4747. In the event of an active State Department Travel Warning against travel to the specific destination location(s) of the trip, should The Traveler still choose to travel, notwithstanding any travel advisory or warning, the Participant assumes all risk of personal injury, death or property damage that Oct. arise out of the events like those advised or warned against.
Prices: The post-tour price is subject to change due to supplier cost increases and foreign exchange fluctuation. ATA reserves the right to change the price for such reasons or changes in the number of participants (26) upon which the tour cost is based. All prices are based on rates and tariffs in effect on January 14, 2008.
Weather: Late October brings seasonable temperatures. The average high temperature in Shanghai 68 (f)//20(c), the average low 60/10, and the average number of days with rainfall is 3; Beijing 55(f)/15(c), 45/5 and 3.
Tax Deductibility: Current U.S. tax regulations allow deductibility for travel and subsistence expenses incurred in travel related to trade or business. It is the responsibility of the traveler to become familiar with and adhere to the specific reporting requirements imposed
